Many locals have fond memories of Fran’s Fast Food, or ‘Froggie’s’ as it was also affectionately known. Operating on the space now occupied by Disappointment Park, Fran’s was a multi-faceted establishment offering mezzanine dining and a ground level video arcade.

Long-time Mudgee resident, Colin Jam recalls fondly. ‘I spent most of 1993 at Fran’s, Initially it was the games that got me there, but it was the food that kept me coming back. The Fran Burger had a potato scallop stuffed between the meat and cheese – there was also bacon and there might have even been a bit of tomato in there or something.’

‘I don’t know anyone who actually saw Fran – I couldn’t even tell you what she looked like, but that woman proved beyond all doubt that any dish can be improved by adding a potato scallop.’
