About the artist
Michael Bourke was born in Sydney in 1971.
He spent his child hood watching Happy Days and eating Choo Choo Bars. For a while, he toyed with the idea of becoming a world famous rock and roll star or a post man.
With no musical talent and a tendency to fall off his bike, Michael was forced to stay at school for a very long time. At some stage he was told that it would be okay if he 'stood at the front of the room and pretended to know what was going on'.
Appalled by the lack of marsupials living in his Marrickville apartment, Michael moved to Mudgee in 2001 and immediately made friends with a number of kangaroos.
When not majestically bouncing through the swaying grass, Michael can be seen painting pictures or teaching classes at at the Mudgee Arts Precinct.
Michael has a number of exhibitions coming up and is available for commissions and workshops.
